Richard Pierson was born and raised in Paterson, NJ. Born in 1980, he was raised by single mother Ethel Dunbar and is one of 24 brothers and sisters.
Pierson began completing as an amateur in 2002, at 21 years if age. As an amateur Pierson only had six bouts, winning the New Jersey Golden Gloves title in only his fifth bout.

After turning professional in 2005, Pierson boasts a 9-2 (6KO) record in the middle weight division, Pierson has been the primary sparring partner for top level boxers such as, Kelly Pavlik, Edison Miranda, John Duddy, Joshua Clottey, and Jonathan Banks.

Pierson also mentors youths at Alexander Hamilton Academy and the YMCA of Paterson inspiring and guiding local youths.
Now training out of Global Boxing gym under the tutelage of Bismark Bruce, Pierson is on his quest of fulfilling his dream of becoming World Champion
