The career of Jersey City, NJ boxer Danny “Little Mac” McDermott can be summarized by the newspaper headline that preceded one of his fights: He gives you your money’s worth.

The 31-year-old lightweight McDermott turned pro in 2005 on the undercard of the late-Arturo “Thunder” Gatti, whom McDermott mentored under during the early part of his professional career. McDermott remained undefeated for his first five bouts – including an appearance at Madison Square Garden – before dropping a razor-thin decision to Lucien Gonzalez in his hometown of Reading, PA.

McDermott bounced back to win his next four, including an explosive second round knockout of 9-2 Italian Floriano Pagliara. After the Pagliara fight, McDermott was riddled by inactivity, not fighting for another ten months before facing undefeated Brian Miller. McDermott and Miller went to war for eight rounds, with Miller winning a split-decision over the rusty McDermott in what was called the Garden State Fight of the Year by Boxrec.com.

Nearly another year would pass before McDermott would fight again. After extricating himself from a promotional contract, McDermott went back to war, this time with 7-2 Osnel Charles. Despite the obvious ring rust, McDermott once again put on a thrilling performance, nearly knocking out the slick Charles but losing a decision.

Now under the Global Boxing banner, McDermott looks to make noise in the coming year.
